Invites Area Residents to an Opioid Forum
Lunenburg ROAR Task Force announces a community forum and screening of the film “If Only”, seeking to raise awareness of the nationwide opioid crisis and its effects in our area.
Jim Wahlberg, the film’s producer, will be with us to introduce “If Only”.
Our goal is not to scare people, but to educate the community about the great risks involved with substance use. Starting conversations is the first step in tackling this crisis.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 24, from 6:00 – 8:30pm
WHERE: Lunenburg Middle High School Auditorium,
1079 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg
AUDIENCE: Community members, faculty and staff, parents, middle school and high school students, preferably accompanied by their parents
¨ Parent of a child who died from an overdose
¨ Lunenburg young adults in long term recovery
¨ Mike Duggan, founder of Wicked Sober
¨ Lunenburg Police & Fire officers
¨ Dr. Brian O’Connor, Addiction Specialist from Middlesex Recovery
¨ Increase awareness of the problem of substance abuse and addiction.
¨ Provide fact-based information to encourage healthy choices and safe decisions
¨ Provide information about support and resources to those in active addiction or in recovery, as well as their families, and members of the community.
Our task force is called "ROAR" = Resources for Opioid Awareness and Recovery. Our group is a collaboration of three churches in town, our Superintendent of Schools, the Police Department, and the Boys & Girls Club as well as some "at large" citizens of Lunenburg.
The film “If Only”, co-written and co-produced by James Wahlberg with help from Recovery Centers of America and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, will be presented. It was filmed in a local Massachusetts town that has been heavily impacted by the prescription drug abuse epidemic. The film depicts how the decision to experiment with prescription drugs has lasting and profound consequences for two teens. Please be aware that there is a death in the film, as well as significant footage of a funeral. If your child has experienced recent loss and may be triggered by this film, we recommend that you consider discussing this with your child in advance and viewing it with them. More information about the film can be found at www.ifonlymovie.org.
Addiction support and treatment VENDORS will be available before the forum starts.
Childcare will be provided thanks to the Lunenburg Boys & Girls Club National Honor Society Students.
